How Much Is Your UAE Mobile Number Worth? Here’s How to Check

Most people in the UAE know that car plates change hands for extraordinary sums. Plate P7 reached AED 55 million at a charity auction, and the sales make the news every year.

Far fewer know that the number sitting in their own phone can be sold too. Legally, through the carrier, with ownership formally transferred. It is a quieter market than the plate auctions, but it is real, it is regulated, and most residents walk around with a number they have never thought to value.

Some of those numbers are worth a few hundred dirhams. Some are worth more than a car. One currently on the market is asking over a million.

Why this market exists here and almost nowhere else

Three things came together in the UAE that rarely come together anywhere else.

The first is the plate culture. Once a country has spent two decades publicly paying six and seven figures for a short registration number, paying for a memorable phone number stops sounding strange. The habit crossed over from the roads to the SIM card.

The second is who is doing the bidding. Roughly 88% of UAE residents are expatriates, which means Chinese homophones, Indian digit-lore, Islamic numerology and Western superstition all put a price on the same seven digits. Often a different price, and sometimes for opposite reasons. Demand that would be niche in a single-culture market becomes broad here.

The third is the part nobody talks about: ownership is genuinely provable. Every UAE SIM is registered to an Emirates ID under strict identity rules, and transferring a number means both parties turning up in person. That sounds like friction, and it is. It is also exactly what lets a phone number behave like an asset instead of a handshake. You can prove who owns it, and you can prove when it changed hands.

Three carriers operate in the UAE today: Etisalat (e&), du and Virgin Mobile. The three-digit prefix on a number records which carrier was originally allocated that range, not necessarily who runs the line today. Number portability lets a number move between networks while its prefix stays put.

What actually makes a number valuable

It has nothing to do with the network. It is the shape of the digits.

Repetition does most of the work. Three identical digits in a row is the entry ticket, four is meaningfully rarer, and five is rare enough to change the price bracket entirely. Six is close to unobtainable. Across a marketplace inventory of more than 59,000 numbers currently listed for sale, only 24 contain six identical digits in a row. Just 196 contain five.

Mirrors and rhythms matter almost as much. A number that reads the same forwards and backwards, or that falls into a repeating beat, is easier to say aloud and easier to remember. That is the whole point of a valuable number: someone can recall it after hearing it once.

Cultural digits carry a premium, but only where the belief is shared. In this region 786 is the clearest example, and so is a heavy presence of 7s. The effect is real. It also depends entirely on a crowd agreeing on the meaning, so a digit that is lucky to one community and neutral to everyone else does very little to the price.

Position counts too. The same triple is worth more at the end of a number than buried in the middle, because the ending is the part people see, repeat and remember.

What does not make a number valuable: being new, being on a particular network, or simply being yours.

What these numbers actually sell for

Abstract tiers are less useful than real listings. These are five numbers currently for sale in the UAE, all from private sellers rather than dealers, across the full range of the market:

    NumberAsking price
    055 1991177AED 500
    054 4014443AED 5,000
    052 2212220AED 18,000
    050 7777777AED 250,000
    055 3960322AED 1,000,000

The spread is the point. The AED 500 number has a pleasant rhythm and nothing more. The AED 18,000 number has a strong repeating structure. The AED 250,000 number is seven identical digits, the kind of thing that simply does not come up often. And the top of the market sits above a million dirhams: the highest asking price on the UAE’s largest number marketplace is currently AED 1,050,000.

You can see the full range of live listings and what they ask at MobileNumber.ae.

These are asking prices. What a number finally goes for is settled between the two parties, and a seller who knows what they are holding has room to negotiate from a strong position.

How much is my phone number worth? Checking takes 30 seconds

Enter your full number into the UAE mobile number value calculator. It reads the structure of the digits, including repeats, mirrors, sequences, where the pattern sits and which prefix it starts with, then returns an estimated range based on what comparable numbers are actually listed at.

Read the range rather than the midpoint. The top of your range is what a buyer who wants exactly that pattern is willing to go to, and patterns find their buyer here more often than people expect.

Free, no signup, and you have your answer before your coffee gets cold.

If it turns out to be worth something

Selling a UAE number is a formal process rather than a private arrangement, and the formality is what protects you.

Both parties attend in person at a carrier store with original Emirates IDs, or with a notarised power of attorney if one of you genuinely cannot be there. The buyer must be 18 or older. Any outstanding postpaid balance or device instalment has to be settled before the line will move.

The transfer itself starts from AED 29 and is usually completed the same day. Your number keeps working throughout. WhatsApp stays active, bank OTPs keep arriving, and nothing needs re-registering on your side.

One rule is worth more than all the others: never send money before the transfer is done. The most common way people lose money in this market is paying a stranger in advance for a number that never moves. Do the paperwork at the carrier counter, and pay when the line is in the buyer’s name.

If you decide to go ahead, you can list your number and let buyers come to you rather than hunting for one yourself.

The number is already yours. Find out what it’s worth.

More than 59,000 UAE numbers are on the market right now, and the top of that market is asking AED 1,050,000. Every one of those sellers started in exactly the same place you are: looking at their own number and wondering.

Plenty of them found something. A repeated pair sitting at the end. A mirror they had typed a thousand times without ever reading it backwards. A run of 7s. They listed it, buyers came to them, and the line moved at a carrier counter the same day for AED 29.

You already own the asset. You pay nothing to find out what it is worth, and the whole check takes half a minute.

    Sourcing

All listing counts, scarcity figures and asking prices were counted from live marketplace inventory on 28 September 2026. The five example numbers were verified as active, privately listed and unchanged in price on the same day.
