The Abu Dhabi Corniche Beach was opened on 7 July 2008. It is considered to be a highly secure and clean place. Since April 2011, it has been recognized as a Blue Flag rescue. This is a recognition of clean water testing, beach care, and strict safety rules. The beach has zones for families and for everyone. Lifeguards keep an eye on the water during the day. The showers, changing rooms, and many other services are available.

    Abu Dhabi Corniche Beach Location

Corniche Beach is on the north of Abu Dhabi Island. The Arabian Gulf surrounds it. It is very near the well-known spots such as Marina Mall, Emirates Palace, and Heritage Village.

The most popular road running along the shore is Khalifa Al Mubarak Street, which is known as East Corniche Road. This is the primary public beach of the city. People often use the name “Al Sahil” for the public part.

    History and Important Dates

Abu Dhabi Corniche Beach is one of the successful urban water projects that has made the city’s waterfront a better place to live in. The first part was officially opened in July 2008. Later on, more areas were put in.

In April 2011, the beach won the Blue Flag through its cleanliness promotion of safety, nature care. It was the first beach on the Arabian Gulf to receive this award.

In December 2023, a project to make beaches more accessible was started. It provided equipment such as sea-elevators and floating wheelchairs for disabled people to move around the beach. In April 2025, a special 1,000 square meter area close to Gate 3 was opened for those visitors who are visually impaired.

Besides tactile paths, Braille signs, and guided ropes are found there. In August 2025, a Night Beach was unveiled in the Al Sahil part, with safe lights on for evening swimming. In 2026, the beach was used for the safety education of kids and students.

Abu Dhabi Corniche Beach Layout and Zones

The public Abu Dhabi Corniche Beach has three main sections. Gate 4 is the public beach. Thus, the public area is for all. This area is free of cost and remains open for all. The separation of the family area is by a fence at Gates 2 and 3 and the public beach.

The family zones are designated for women, families, and children. The price for adult to family by AED 10 and children get discounts. All the categories have soft sand and swim zones that are roped off. The shallowness of the water along the coast makes it safe for the children to swim.

Lifeguards are present in their stations on the beach until sunset. Along with the lifeguards, the safety flags are also there to help people know when it is best to swim. Green is OK, red means the water was deemed unsafe. Swimmers are supposed to stay within the limits of the flags.

    Facilities and Services

Convenient facilities are set up near all gates. You can find washrooms, showers, and changing rooms. You can hire sun loungers and umbrellas if you want to. Food kiosks and cafes are situated along the promenade.

There is a small marketplace that offers snacks and cool drinks. The beaches have an adjacent park where the children can play, behind the sand.

In addition to the traditional sports courts for volleyball, soccer, and basketball, there are jogging and cycling paths that are lined up along the beach. There are also praying chambers and vending machines but in specific locations.

Plus, a tiny library is on-site for those who wish to read in silence. Personal lockers should not be used, people ought to be careful with their possessions as there are thieves around everywhere.

    Simple Safety Rules

Swimming is only allowed during the daytime, from around 7 a.m. to sunset. The lifeguard zones are the only areas swimmers can dive into, and they must also be between the flags.

Always respect the lifeguard’s rules. Alcoholic beverages and glass bottles are not allowed on the public beach. Smoking is only allowed in the specifically marked smoking zones at the park’s back. Vaping and shisha are prohibited on the beach.

When on the beach, light swimwear looks good. Off the beach, a moderate dress code is always advisable. People need to cover their shoulders and knees when they leave the beach area.

Barbecues, lighting fires, and drone activities are not allowed. The kids must be watched over by adults full-time. The rules serve their primary purpose of ensuring the safety and convenience of everyone.

    Accessibility for All

The beach is suitable for everyone. It has ramps and paths that connect the parking with the beach. Free “Tiralo” beach wheelchairs are set up for People of Determination.

At one entrance, Seatrac sea is on hand for the users to get into the water safely. Guide dogs, such as the Seeing Eye, help people who have visual impairments since the dogs are still accompanying them throughout the beach site.

In 2025, the Blind Friendly area at Gate 3 opened. The children-only cinema includes audio directions and a dedicated lifeguard. There are accessible stalls in the toilets and showers that people with disabilities can use.

In addition, there is also parking for those who have just started their activity, menstrual bleeding, and a free car to take them to the beach. The beach meets the strictest international accessibility standards.

    How to Get There

    By Car

Drive along Khalifa Al Mubarak Street (Corniche Road) and find signs that direct you to Gates 2 and 3 for family sections and Gate 4 for the public beach. Over 1,100 free parking spaces are available towards the beach. Since parking places are usually rapidly filled up, particularly on the weekends, start your journey earlier.

    By Bus

Buses from public transport are running on the Corniche road. The most common bus routes include lines 32, 34, 5, and 63. These buses will carry passengers from near Corniche Street to the Police HQ. The trip is not that long as the beach is at a short distance. The tourist hop-on bus also stops at the public beach. There is no metro in Abu Dhabi.

    By Taxi

There are cabs available in a strikingly large number. The time it takes for a person to get to this place from the Abu Dhabi International Airport (which is about 20 kilometers away) should be approximately 20 to 25 minutes. Tell the driver “Corniche Beach, Gate 4” and“Corniche Plaza”. Companies like Careem and Uber are also present in the city.

    By Bicycle/Walking

You will find bike lanes on the walkway. Bike rentals can be found near Marina Mall and at Bateen. Walking is also a good way to experience the area with the provided comfortable rest areas and benches.

    Clean and Green

Abu Dhabi Corniche Beach puts a lot of effort into protecting the environment. The Blue Flag is a symbol of the sea being regularly tested, the beach kept pristine, and emergency procedures being in place.

The cleanliness crews are busily raking the sand each day. Next to the beach and the walkway are many bins. Making sure the environment is clean is very important to the visitors who come to the beach.

In fact, if someone littered on the beach and threw trash anywhere on the beach, the person should be taken to the police station. The reason is that drug abuse on the beach occurs less when there is a marked area for smoking.

    Events and Activities

This beach is a great place not only for doing various recreational activities but also for organizing different sports competitions and family events. Matches of beach volleyball and other activities are scheduled for certain days.

The city government, in summer 2024, launched “Our Summer on the Beach”, offering a load of outdoor activities, games, and educational sessions on the beach together with a joyful family atmosphere.

”Beach Safety” and the “Little Lifeguard” were two of the projects organized in 2026, which taught little souls about safety while at the sea and how to rescue someone else.

The newly built Night Beach started to operate in August 2025, when families were allowed to swim under lights around the bay. Normally, the visitors like to ride a bike, rollerblade, yoga retreat, or go on a picnic.

Aside from that, fishing and light kite surfing are also practiced in the non-swimming areas. Once in a while, there are cultural activities and art shows on the promenade. Free volley appears now and then along with the basketball courts next to the sea.

Nearby Hotels and Places to Visit

Luxurious hotels and many more interesting places are located in it. Emirates Palace is at one end. Beach Rotana and other hotels are positioned along the Corniche area.

First of all, walking tours are best when there are no more fun activities to pursue. The promenade restaurant section is just behind the beach. Corniche Park is an open green dominating the environmental development of the park.

A cultural tour would include Heritage Village, which is a dedicated space for preserving the Abu Dhabi culture for tourists as well as the Emirati people. Examples include Abu Dhabi’s newly built Qasr Al Watan and the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

Both are not more than 5 to 10 kilometers from the Corniche area. The city view is pleasant, and the walk is quite relaxing with the breeze that flows through the gardens on the sidewalk.

    HelpTips
